DOBERMANNS PAY WITH THEIR LIVES

In the Western World the first cause of death for dogs is being put to sleep by owners who failed to educate them. These ignorant owners think they have a bad dog on their hands and that he therefore must be destroyed. Responsible dog handlers know that there are no bad dogs. There are only ignorant and irresponsible owners. For this misconception the dogs always pay with their lives. As far as we know some 12.000.000 dogs are put to sleep in the Western World EVERY YEAR. The second cause of death for dogs are traffic accidents. When a traffic accident happens the dogs are once more the victims of irresponsible and ignorant owners. If you educate and train your dog, a simple ”STAY”- command can save his life when a vehicle is approaching. Many times I get phone calls. Many times I am told that it is an emergency. Some time ago there was a case that made me loose my temper. Not because of the beautiful Dobermann bitch I met. But because of her owners. Some years ago they bought themselves their first Dobermann, ”for more than a thousand...”. As if the price you pay for a dog is important. They said that: ”they did not have the time to educate the dog”. Eventually this free ranging dog attacked and wounded several people. Therefore it was clear to my clients that he was a bad dog. They had him put down. Then they bought a second Dobermann. Again they did not have time to spend with the dog. The dog again attacked and wounded several people. Once more it was clear to them that it was a bad dog. They had him put down. Then they bought a third Dobermann. The dog attacked several people and again it was obvious that it was a bad dog. They had him put to sleep. Then they bought a fourth Dobermann. The bitch was now 2 years old and had attacked and wounded two people. I thought that after having made so many mistakes they were now finally willing to start educating this dog. I was mistaken. When I visited the owners and asked them if they were finally willing to educate the dog their answer was: ”We still do not have the time for it!” But now they were “a little bit afraid that the dog would attack children” and therefore they had made up their mind already. This bitch would have to be put to sleep also. I asked them why they had summoned me to their home. The answer was that they only wanted my advice about what kind of dog they should buy. Because of the kind of property they had, it would have to be a big dog. But this time they would prefer to buy an obedient dog. That’s what they said. Can you believe it? They thought that you can go to a breeder and say: ”I would like to have an obedient dog”. I told them that I was not prepared to help them if they were not willing to educate their dog. The amazing thing about this Apocalypse Now scenario for Dobermann dogs is that not one wounded neighbour has had the guts to go to the police and denounce the owners of the unfortunate dogs. Denouncing them after the first incident would have saved the lives of three dogs. It would have saved many people from injuries and it will probably save the lives of future victims.
